Senator Thomas Kean, (R-21), issued the following statement regarding the formation of Save Our State Inc., a non-profit entity to promote Governor Jon Corzine’s massive toll hike plan. Under New Jersey election law, P.L. 2004 c. 20, grass roots lobbying organizations, must file a report of all contributions in excess of $100 with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) annually. These groups must also file reports with ELEC detailing its expenditures. C. 20 was sponsored by Senators Adler and Lance and passed both houses of the Legislature with unanimous bi-partisan support.
“Unfortunately, the Chapter 20 disclosure requirements are annual. This means that we may have to wait until next February to see those persons and entities who contributed to the media barrage in favor of the toll hikes.
“The Governor’s road tax proposal has the potential to severely impact New Jersey’s working families for the next 75 years. I call on Governor Corzine to have his organization voluntarily disclose its contributors, before the Legislature is called to a vote on his proposal. The working families of New Jersey and the Legislature need that information to put the pro road tax media blitz into perspective.”
