Kean is the sponsor of S-355 which provides governance, transparency, and accountability reforms at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

“I truly believe that Republicans and Democrats have been working toward the same goals with Port Authority reform,” said Kean. “We all want to make the Port Authority more accountable and transparent and eliminate opportunities for abuse. I hope that Senators Gordon and Weinberg will join me by helping to push this important effort over the finish line this week.”

Governor Christie’s conditional veto yesterday of Port Authority reform legislation (S-708) sponsored by Senators Bob Gordon (D-38) and Loretta Weinberg (D-37) changes the language of their bill to match that of S-355 and identical legislation already approved by the New York Legislature and signed into law by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Legislation to reform the structure of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey must be adopted in identical form in both states.

“Let’s vote on Thursday on the Port Authority reforms that can be immediately adopted and enacted,” added Kean. “I’m more than happy to continue working with my colleagues to advance additional legislation that would build upon these fundamental reforms.”
