Singer Speaks About His Daughter, Sarri, Injured in a 2003 Terrorist Attack in Jerusalem
Senator Robert Singer (R-Monmouth, Ocean) joined with a bipartisan group of legislators and the New Jersey State Association of Jewish Federations at a press conference at the New Jersey State House to announce legislation showing solidarity with the State of Israel and the Jewish community.
Senator Singer is a sponsor of a bipartisan resolution, AR-154, introduced today expressing support for Israel as it defends itself against unprovoked rocket attacks from Hamas terrorist organization. The resolution urges congress to take additional action to support the funding of the Iron Dome and calls for the demilitarization of Hamas in any peace negotiations.
Senator Singer stated the following at the press conference:
“Eleven years ago my eldest daughter was living and working in Jerusalem and was on a bus to meet her friend for dinner when a young man got on the bus and set off a bomb, killing 16 individuals and injuring my daughter. That individual was supported by and funded by Hamas. They export terrorism. They export killing people, innocent people by the way, because there was no military on the bus. There were grandmothers and children and other innocent people on their way home from work, just as my daughter was.
“When you speak to the families, when you meet people that have suffered those losses you understand the victims of terrorism, you understand what Israel goes through from Hamas on a daily basis. Their world is to destroy Israel. Their world is to murder people. Their heroes are people who kill other people. How can we not stand up against that? You are seeing that with ISIS now. Hamas has been doing it for years. And unfortunately for some strange reason the press tries to glamorize this group as some innocent group being persecuted in the West Bank, an innocent group that is fighting for their own survival.
“They are fighting to destroy Israel. They are fighting to destroy people and kill people. So, this resolution like other resolutions is to support Israel and help Israel. It’s something I’m committed to and I know that the legislators are (committed too).”
