Singer Encourages Governor-Elect Christie to Choose a Medical Professional to Lead Department of Health

Senator Robert Singer, the ranking Republican member of the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee, issued the following statement regarding Governor-Elect Chris Christie’s choice for the next Commissioner of the Department of Health and Senior Services:

“I first want to commend Commissioner Howard for the fine job she has done during her tenure at the Department of Health. During her term at the department Commissioner Howard has accomplished many things that are good for the future of New Jersey. In particular, she was instrumental in expanding NJ Family Care.

“I would hope that the governor-elect’s team seriously considers choosing a medical doctor as the next Commissioner of the Department of Health. As emerging threats, like the H1N1 flu, expand rapidly in the modern world I believe that the position requires someone with a comprehensive background in the medical sciences. It is clear, that a medical professional is the person best positioned to lead the department and advise the governor in the case of a medical crisis.”
