A bill sponsored by Senator Robert Singer, (R-30), that would require school buses to display the owner’s business telephone number for reporting of violations, problems or unusual circumstances was approved by the Senate today.
“This bill will deter bus drivers from acting recklessly while transporting children,” said Singer. “With information about the owner displayed on the bus a driver knows if there are any traffic violations, problems, or unusual circumstances information to contact the owner is available right on the bus.”
Under the bill every school bus registered in the state would have the following information conspicuously displayed on the rear of the vehicle: “If this bus has committed a violation of the motor vehicle laws, created any traffic problems, or been involved in any unusual circumstances, please call (bus company’s telephone number).
“School bus safety is a major issue for parents and schools,” added Singer. “The majority of bus drivers do a great job, but for those who have problems providing this information is a way to monitor their driving.”
