Unanimously Passes Senate
The state Senate yesterday passed legislation sponsored by Senator Robert Singer (R-30) that requires assisted living facilities to provide their private pay residents with an informational sheet concerning Medicaid eligibility. If the bill becomes law, a sheet of written information explaining eligibility for participation in the Medicaid program would be distributed to all prospective and current private pay nursing home residents, their payer or guardians.
“Protecting the most vulnerable, especially the residents of assisted living facilities, is good government, ” stated Singer. “This bill will help seniors stay informed of their rights and better protect those with limited financial resources.”
This bill protects private pay consumers of long term care residences who are sometimes removed from their place of living without prior notice once they reach Medicaid eligibility.
The bill has the support of the Healthcare Association of New Jersey, which advocates on behalf of health-care services in New Jersey. It is sponsored in the Assembly by Assemblyman Ronald Dancer (R-30).
