Singer Bill Designates April as “Jewish Heritage Month”

A joint resolution that would designate April of each year as “Jewish Heritage Month” in the State of New Jersey has been approved by the Senate State Government Committee.  The measure, SJR-36, is sponsored by Senator Robert Singer (R-30).

The resolution states, “While making inroads into every facet of American society, Jewish Americans have infused our nation’s civic, social, economic, and cultural life with their own unique culture, customs, and dynamic heritage.”

“People of the Jewish faith have been an integral part of the New Jersey community for more than 350 years,” said Singer. “Jewish immigrants and their descendents have enriched our culture and served as role models for our state and nation.”

The resolution further declares, “In times of despair and extraordinary need, Jewish culture and heritage has uplifted, inspired, and provided solace, while also demonstrating and teaching our nation the virtues of persistence and perseverance.”

“Jewish Americans have served as a guide for our nation through some of its darkest hours,” added Singer. “It is fitting that we honor the contributions and achievements of Jewish Americans by declaring April of each year to be ‘Jewish Heritage Month’ in the State of New Jersey.”
