Senator Robert Singer (R-30) has shepherded a bill into law that requires assisted living facilities to provide private pay residents with an informational sheet concerning Medicaid eligibility. The governor signed the bill today. The new law requires written information explaining eligibility for participation in the Medicaid program be distributed to all prospective and current private pay nursing home residents, their payer or guardians.
“Nursing home residents were being asked to leave on short notice, just before their personal funds ran out,” Singer stated. “This law gives families the information they need to make plans well in advance about where they will place their loved ones when Medicaid takes over.”
The law had the support of the Healthcare Association of New Jersey, which advocates on behalf of health-care services in New Jersey. Among its primary sponsors in the Assembly was Assemblyman Ronald Dancer (R-30).
