Kean Requests Lease Information from Attorney General to Determine Possible Cost Saving
Senator Sean Kean (R-11) is requesting information regarding facilities that are leased to the state police. He intends to ascertain what the state is paying for these locations in order to determine if there are any cost savings that can be identified to prevent the Allenwood State Police Barracks from closing.
“It is crucial that the necessary steps are taken to prevent Allenwood from shutting down,” said Kean. “This request will allow us to accurately evaluate the financial arrangements and determine whether money can be saved in other parts of the state.”
The lease on the building that houses the Allenwood State Police Barracks will soon expire. Trenton has indicated that they will not be renewing the lease resulting in the relocation of the troopers to Mercer and Middlesex Counties.
“The State Troopers stationed at the Allenwood Barracks help protect our area and provide essential backup to enhance our local police departments,” said Kean. “It is important that a State Police presence remains in Monmouth County.”
Kean stated that it is crucial that this information is reviewed before the drastic step of closing the Allenwood Barracks is made. Identifying cost saving alternatives could potentially save the Allenwood Barracks from closing.
Within the last 20 years, Central Jersey has faced the closure of eight state police barracks; nine including Allenwood. “This request could allow us to identify the necessary savings to keep the state police at Allenwood,” said Kean.
