National Federation of Independent Business to Honor Legislators for Perfect Voting Record on Issues Impacting Small Businesses
Senator Phil Haines, Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder have been named “Guardians of Small Business” by the National Federal of Independent Business for their support of small-business issues in the New Jersey legislature.
“We are conscious that New Jersey’s economy is built on the backs of small business,” said Assemblywoman Addiego. “High taxes and over-regulation has forced small businesses out of business or out of the state, and they have taken their jobs with them.
Senator Haines, Assemblywoman Addiego and Assembly Rudder will be recognized at the NFIB’s meeting Wednesday, May 5, at Ponzio’s Restaurant in Cherry Hill.
The three legislators all scored 100 percent on the NFIB’s report card, an analysis of legislative votes on bills impacting independent business in the state.
“The Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council came out with its annual Business Tax Index yesterday, and New Jersey is again ranked dead last out of 50 states. Small businesses no longer want to come to New Jersey,” said Assemblyman Rudder. “If we are ever going to grow ourselves out of this economic problem, we need to start by promoting opportunities for small business and eliminate needless regulations that tie the hands of small business and their ability to grow and create jobs.”
The national organization considered how members of the Senate voted on 10 crucial pieces of legislation, and Senator Haines earned a perfect score. Assembly members were judged on 11 bills, and Assemblywoman Addiego and Assemblyman Rudder were two of just 11 (out of 80) members to score 100 percent.
“The NFIB is calling us ‘Guardians of Small Business, ‘ but we are really the guardians of single mother who needs to feed her kids, the family man struggling to make ends meet, and the worker who is saving money to buy a home,” said Senator Haines. “Legislation that is good for small business helps create jobs, and our priority must remain jobs, jobs, jobs.”
The NFIB is the leading small-business advocacy association in the country with offices in all 50 state capitals and Washington, D.C.
