Legislators Hold Press Conference to Offer Alternative Budget Solutions
Assemblyman Dave Rible and Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini today announced alternative solutions to Governor Corzine’s state budget.
At a press conference held at the Foodtown located in Wall Township, Rible and Angelini were joined by local residents. The legislators expressed their concerns over the governor’s proposal to impose additional taxes on the residents of New Jersey.
“The greater part of our state’s residents fall into the middle class category that will be impacted by the budget,” said Rible. “The proposed budget will be introducing additional taxes on middle-class residents and we need to come up with an alternative plan that caters to the needs of the majority of New Jersey taxpayers.”
The budget would enforce more than $950 million in additional taxes on working residents and would take approximately $100 million from dedicated funds including municipal aid, school aid, property tax rebates and property tax deductions.
“It is evident that this plan will be devastating for the average resident who is already struggling to make ends meet in this failing economy,” said Angelini. “New Jersey’s property taxes are currently the highest in the country and a reasonable plan that will alleviate these financial burdens on residents is long overdue.”
Rible and Angelini offered alternative solutions to the budget including eliminating political appointees, limiting wasteful spending in Abbott districts, eliminating the Department of the Public Advocate which performs the duties of multiple state agencies and reducing state cars as the fleet currently consists of nearly 16,000 vehicles.
