I would like to add my support the effort of Senator Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder to cut the cost of state government by reducing the compensation of legislators by 10 percent. By cutting the pay of all 120 state legislators, New Jersey taxpayers will save $600,000 every year - money that could provide municipal aid, property tax relief, promote job growth by easing the tax burden on small business, or fund education.
I commend Senator Addiego and Assemblyman Rudder for voluntarily taking a permanent 10 percent reduction in compensation, and support their legislation to permanently apply the same reduction to every member of the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly.
The Legislature should act now on this important effort to reduce the cost of government and lower the burden on New Jersey taxpayers.
