Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-26) issued the following statement today regarding Governor Corzine’s proposed fiscal year 2009 budget:
“I am pleased the Governor is moving in the right direction by focusing on spending cuts rather than increasing tolls 800% to balance the budget. However, more spending cuts are needed.
“Governor Corzine should focus on reforming the state pension system, eliminating political patronage positions and rolling back increases for Abbott school districts. These are the types of budget cuts New Jersey residents are clamoring for.
“During the past few years I have proposed billions of dollars in spending cuts to help balance the budget and pay down state debt. These suggestions, coupled with a constitutional cap on state spending and a constitutional ban on all state borrowing, would restore New Jersey’s fiscal health and revitalize our state’s economy.”
