Latest Corruption Proves Need for “Transparency in Government Act”

Morris Plains, NJ – State Senator Joe Pennacchio (R-Morris/Passaic) is calling on the Governor and Legislature to act now in passing S-445 (http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/bills/BillsByNumber.asp). “When I pick up the paper and read about the widespread culture of corruption in New Jersey, it becomes clear that the time to act is now. It’s time to walk the walk and bring accountability back to this State,” said Pennacchio.

Pennacchio is responding to New Jersey’s most recent indictments in Bergen County where the Democrat Chairman and attorney abused power to influence State, County and Local officials to obtain tens of thousands of dollars in business. “We have Mayors, Senators, Chairmen and Councilmen throughout the state being indicted for abusing public office to enrich themselves and line their pockets with the public dollar. Corruption is so perverse in New Jersey, the need for this website is obvious. Let the public see where each dime is spent – where their tax dollars are going,” added Pennacchio

The “Government in Transparency Act” would establish a State public finance website which retains and displays data and information on the State’s annual revenues, expenditures and total bonded indebtedness. The bill establishes an accessible, user friendly source of information to track State revenues and expenditures and to gauge its past and present levels of indebtedness. An example of such a website can be viewed at: www.window.state.tx.us/comptrol/expendlist/cashdrill.php.
