In light of disturbing news reports, Senator Steve Oroho, a Republican on the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, is asking Governor Corzine to immediately release the latest figures on revenue collections.
“Yesterday, a financial news service reported that the state took the extraordinary step of delaying a $364 million transportation bond sale without providing any explanation of why. Another news report today quotes an administration official as saying the governor is about to ‘drop another budget bombshell.’

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean, R-21, and Assemblyman Jay Webber, R-26, issued the following statement marking Tax Freedom Day in New Jersey. This is the day when the average Garden State worker finally has earned enough to pay all of his federal, state and local taxes for the year. Tax Freedom Day comes to New Jersey later than to any state other than Connecticut, where it will come tomorrow. New Jersey taxpayers spend one-third of the year laboring to pay for the cost of government.

Democrats Must Go on the Record to Overcome “Poison Pills”
Senate Minority Leader Thomas H. Kean (R-Essex/Morris/Somerset/Union) released a legal opinion from the non-partisan Office of Legislative Services (OLS) which indicated that Governor Corzine’s proposal to raid dedicated funds for arts, tourism and shore protection purposes may be unconstitutional. The Governor’s Fiscal Year 2010 budget proposes to suspend various “poison pill” laws used to dedicate funding for certain purposes.

Senator Diane Allen
Senator Diane Allen, R-Burlington, has introduced legislation to prevent violent gang members from avoiding prison by threatening witnesses to their crimes. Under New Jersey’s current court rules, statements to police officers or other officials made by a witness to a crime who later refuses to testify are usually not admissible in court, even if the refusal comes because threats of violence.

Republican Senator Steven Oroho, District 24, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations committee issued the following statement criticizing the Highlands Plan for failing to compensate hard-working home and land owners for the drop in property values:
“When government forces the owners to accept land-use rules that diminish the value of their property, justice demands they be compensated. New Jersey’s farmers are especially hard hit by the loss of value in their land. The diminished value of farmland in the Highlands is making it increasingly difficult to secure necessary credit, especially in this economy.
