Senator Kevin O’Toole (R-40) renewed his call for the Democrat Majority to immediately schedule a vote on bipartisan legislation that grants the governor veto power over minutes of the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission, North and South Jersey District Water Supply Commissions and all agencies and authorities.
“Governor Christie has shown that this is about being proactive in protecting the public trust, taxpayers and their money,” O’Toole said. “Under the direction of the Governor, it has been proven that bloated bureaucracies such as the PSVC can be controlled.”
Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg reiterated to The Record in a Wednesday article that she is happy to vote for this legislation but has failed to get it posted. The Senate President has the authority to post O’Toole’s S-714, also sponsored by Senator Brian Stack (D-33), and S-770, also sponsored by Weinberg.
The adoption of either bill would give the Governor veto power over authority/agency minutes, giving taxpayers the proper checks and balances so state resources don’t need to be used to clean up waste.
“Allowing these bipartisan bills to languish yet another session is a disservice to every taxpayer in New Jersey,” O’Toole concluded. “Enacting this basic and common sense reform should be a no-brainer.”
