Senator Kevin O’Toole a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee issued the following statement regarding revelations that incumbent United States Senator Frank Lautenberg was awarded a property tax rebate on his posh Washington D.C. condo.
“Senator Frank Lautenberg is right; everyone should get a break on their property taxes, not just multi-millionaire United States Senators. As a representative of the people of the entire state Senator Lautenberg should use his influence with his friend, colleague and political ally, Governor Jon Corzine to ensure that every working family in this state receives real, substantial and sustainable property tax relief.
“For the last six years Senator Lautenberg’s party has had total control of state government. During that time state spending has increased by fifty percent, taxes and fees have increased by more than $12 billion, debt has exploded to more than $32 billion and property taxes have increased by an average of 7 percent a year.
“Someone who has been around as long as Frank Lautenberg must recognize that failed Democrat fiscal policies are hurting New Jersey families, even if he doesn’t really live in the state. Middle class and working families need property tax relief just like Frank Lautenberg received, and they need it now. This is why we must fully fund that NJSaver property tax rebate program for everyone.”
