Senator Kevin O’Toole issued the following statement regarding the release of the regional employment numbers:
“Governor Corzine’s assertion that New Jersey’s economy is better than our neighbors is patently false, disproven by the facts. Our state, once an economic powerhouse, is now a pale shadow of its former self due to the policies of Jon Corzine and his allies in Trenton.
“According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), NJ’s unemployment rate grew at a rate of 4 percent from September 2008 to September 2009. The rate of job losses from September 2008 to September 2009 is the highest in the region.
“Sadly the state unemployment rate of 9.8 percent follows the same pattern. The long-term and short-term numbers issued by the BLS speak for themselves. If New Jersey is going to recover, the policies of Corzine and his allies in Trenton must be reversed.”
State Unemployment Rates as of September 2009

PA — 8.8%
