Comptroller, Inspector General and Medicaid Inspector General Have Overlapping Responsibilities
Senator Steve Oroho (R-24), a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, stated today that the State Comptroller, State Inspector General and Medicaid Inspector General contribute to the overall bureaucratic maze and inefficiency in much of state government because their duties overlap.
“After yesterday’s hearing, it appears to be that the Comptroller, Inspector General and Medicaid Inspector General are three layers of overlapping government bureaucracy, ” stated Oroho. “There is little coordination between these three state agencies, all of whom share similar responsibilities.”
“All three organizations were established to root out waste, fraud and abuse in New Jersey, ” continued Oroho. “However, as well-intentioned as their mandate may be, it seems symbolic of the same type of waste and inefficiency that they are charged with eliminating.”
“The State Comptroller, State Inspector General and Medicaid Inspector General are all under the umbrella of the Department of Treasury. I think we should look into creating only one office to carry out their duties thereby saving administrative expenses and coordinating their efforts more closely.”
