Passes Economic Growth Committee 5-0
Senator Steve Oroho (R-24) is the prime sponsor of a resolution that would encourage food service providers in the state capitol to use Jersey Grown products.
“New Jersey has been blessed with a rich and fertile agricultural environment that produces some of the freshest, healthiest, and best-tasting produce in the country, ” stated Oroho. “As our state capital, Trenton should be the first place that encourages the purchase and consumption of New Jersey-grown products.”
Senate Resolution 39 requests that the Department of Agriculture assist vendors in identifying and purchasing locally grown products to be used and sold at the State House complex. Both the Department of Agriculture and the New Jersey Farm Bureau support this initiative.
“All state facilities should be purchasing New Jersey grown products if it is practical and feasible, ” Oroho continued. “Not only are the products fresher and better tasting, but their purchase helps the local economy, supports New Jersey farms, preserves open space and protects the environment.”
The Resolution now goes before the full Senate for consideration.
