Senator Steven Oroho and Assemblyman Parker Space (both R-Sussex, Warren, Morris) welcomed the release of information by the New Jersey Department of Education on a new application process to help restore funding to school districts that lost state aid in the recently enacted state budget.

“In response to school aid cuts that the Democrats forced through the Legislature, we worked with the administration to develop the new NJDOE program to help restore lost funding, protect students and teachers, and prevent property tax increases,” said Oroho. “I’m glad that school districts will now be able to start the process of recovering from the unexpected cuts that were imposed through the state budget.”

“We’ve said that any school funding reform effort must treat all school districts fairly, but that didn’t prove to be the case under the Democrats’ budget deal that merely shifted money to their districts,” said Space. “I’m glad that our schools will have a new resource through the NJDOE to offset those unfair cuts.”

As a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, Oroho also worked with the governor’s administration to reduce the $3.3 million in school aid cuts that were initially proposed by the Democrats for schools in the 24th Legislative District to just $1 million in the state budget that was ultimately enacted.

“The fact is the Democrats took away $1 million from our local schools, and that’s why we voted against the state budget even though we did succeed in eliminating $2.3 million of the cuts that had been proposed initially,” said Oroho. “If not for our efforts, it would have been much worse.”
