Corzine Administration Must Not Retreat from Nuclear Power Stance
Senator Steven V. Oroho (R-Sussex/Morris), a member of the Senate Economic Growth Committee, issued the following statement on the release of the New Jersey Energy Master Plan:
“There are many elements in this proposal that are worthy of bi-partisan support by the Legislature, and I look forward to working with the administration on passing the necessary bills in order to make the plan a reality,” said Oroho. I am particularly pleased with the recommendations to promote new technologies such tidal, hydro, wind, solar and bio-fuels, all of which will promote energy security for our State and the nation.
“However, while this ‘all of the above’ philosophy should spur the development of new and innovative sources of energy, the Corzine Administration should not out of political considerations shy away from their previous support for the construction of a new nuclear power generating station,” said Oroho. “Private capital is ready to invest in nuclear technology now, and the construction of a new plant will create much-needed jobs for skilled labor in New Jersey. Moreover, the construction of a nuclear power plant will allow this State to more readily meet the aggressive greenhouse gas reduction goals that have been passed into law.”
“The construction of new energy infrastructure must be pursued aggressively by the administration in order to ensure that the State can continue to provide energy at reasonable rates to both residential and business consumers, while at the same time setting an example to the nation on how to break our reliance on sources of energy from dangerous and unstable foreign regimes.”
