Senator Steve Oroho, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, expressed dismay that Governor Corzine is trying to champion his stewardship of the economy even as the unemployment rate hit nearly 10 percent, the highest rate since April 1977. The governor has urged the members of his cabinet to get “creative” and “stretch” to invent events to bolster his miserable record on job creation.
“The state unemployment rate is now 9.8 percent, so it is not surprising that Governor Corzine would manufacture public events that give the impression that his record on employment is satisfactory. The facts on unemployment in New Jersey contradict Corzine’s claim.
“New Jersey’s unemployment rate is the highest in the region and the state economy is a shambles. Governor Corzine and his allies in the legislature have implemented regressive tax, borrow and spend policies that have effectively destroyed job growth in the state.
“The governor’s big-government, anti-competitive policies have transformed the state into the most unaffordable state in the nation. New Jersey has the highest tax burden in the U.S. and the governor has promised more and higher taxes.”
