Senator Leonard Lance, the Senate Republican Budget Officer, announced today that he will introduce a Senate Resolution urging the United States Congress to restore tax credits for businesses developing alternative energy solutions. The credits will expire December 31st unless they are renewed.
“This vitally important program will ensure our energy independence in the foreseeable future. Solar, wind and biofuels combat the threat of global warming, lower the cost of energy and make U. S. industries more competitive in the global market place. These technologies will also stop the transfer of wealth to Middle Eastern petro-dictators.
“We must not be pennywise and pound foolish. Investment in renewable energy is critical to both our energy independence and our national security. Inexpensive renewable energy will also ease financial pressure on the middle class beset by a deteriorating economy, rising gas prices and the housing crisis.
“I will introduce a Senate resolution when we reconvene in October that will urge Congress to reconsider this short-sighted policy choice. With winter fast approaching we can afford to do no less.”
