Senate Republican Budget Officer Leonard Lance issued the following statement regarding the General Assembly’s action on proposed constitutional amendments that would prohibit state borrowing without voter approval.
“I am pleased that Speaker Roberts and Chairwoman Pou acted to make the proposed Constitutional Amendment in the Assembly that would limit borrowing without voter approval identical to the Senate Resolution. It is important that we move before summer break begins to ensure that this critical fiscal reform measure is placed on the November General election ballot.
“Senator Barbara Buono, the Chairwoman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, has scheduled the constitutionally required public hearing on this Constitutional Amendments immediately following the regular budget hearing Monday, June 9. After the hearing is concluded, the only hurdle left will be to garner a three-fifths super majority in each House of the Legislature. I urge President Codey and Speaker Roberts to post this Resolution in the Senate and Assembly at the next voting session.”
