Budget Committee Rejects Amendment To ExcludeCop Killers, Terrorists & Child Murderers From Ban
Senate Republican Leader Leonard Lance, (R-23), issued the following statement after the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee released Senate Bill 171, which would abolish capital punishment in New Jersey.
“Some crimes are so heinous that they absolutely warrant the death penalty. Those who murder law enforcement officials, rape and murder children, and terrorists, whether homegrown or foreign, should pay the ultimate penalty for their crimes.
“I am frustrated that my amendment that would have excluded the most awful crimes from the ban on capital punishment was rejected by my colleagues on the other side of the aisle. I believe that it is vitally important that those who commit the most atrocious crimes will be held accountable by a jury of their peers and that those juries have the option in the most extreme cases to apply the death penalty.”
