Judiciary Committee Needs To Hear From Auditors Who Revealed BPU Fiscal Irregularities
Senator Joseph M. Kyrillos (R-Monmouth/Middlesex) called for Senate Democrats to produce officials from the Department of the Treasury who conducted an audit of the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) Clean Energy Program administered by BPU President Jeanne M. Fox. She has been re-nominated by the Governor.
“The Governor’s re-appointment of President Fox has rightfully re-ignited the call for a thorough review of documented cases of fiscal irregularities at the BPU,” said Kyrillos, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “The Senate Democrats who refused Republican calls to bring President Fox before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2006 to investigate these matters must now act to ensure this nomination receives the full scrutiny it deserves.”
“The opening of a secret bank account beyond the oversight of the State Treasurer and failing to maintain adequate records regarding Clean Energy Program grants have been documented in an internal audit conducted by the Department of the Treasury,” Kyrillos noted.
“The Treasury officials who conducted this audit must be brought before the committee and placed under oath, so that Senators can come to grips with the scope of the seeming fiscal lapses that appear to have overtaken the BPU during this era,” said Kyrillos. The public interest requires nothing less.”
