Cold Hard Facts Contradict Governor’s Political Rhetoric
Senator Joe Kyrillos, the senior Republican Member of the Senate Economic Growth Committee, issued the following statements regarding Governor Corzine and his surrogates on their false claims of private-sector job creation:
“Governor Corzine has the audacity to claim he has ‘created’ thousands of jobs. The only jobs he’s created are in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and all the other states that have stolen our businesses and our jobs with the governor’s help.
“I am deeply disturbed that after a decade of unprecedented private-sector job losses, Governor Corzine is traveling around New Jersey taking false credit for any business expansion when the truth is record job loss.
“Respected Rutgers economists say this will be the first decade that New Jersey has fewer private sector jobs at the end of the era than at the beginning. New Jersey has by far the highest unemployment rate in the region at 8.8 percent. According to radio reports the private sector unemployment rate is much higher at 9.5 percent.
“A senior Democratic member of the General Assembly said today he believes that a prolonged recession would be good for the citizens of the state. That explains a lot about how we got in the mess we’re in. In this economic climate, New Jersey needs real leadership. Jon Corzine has not provided that leadership.”
