Consider Republican Budget Plan Instead
News reports show that the Trenton Democrats are considering extending a $60 million tax on electricity and other utilities. The proposal is being considered in budget negotiations.
“I am disturbed that the Corzine Administration would even consider this proposal,” Kyrillos stated. “Energy prices are hurting working families and businesses and the BPU is poised to raise rates even higher.”
Republican’s released a well researched budget plan that identifies $1.3 billion in common sense savings in late May. It allows the State to restore property tax relief, provide transportation funding without raising taxes or tolls, and amply finance essential services. The plan also details structural reforms to the state budget process, reforms the government pensions and benefits systems, and sets forth an economic growth plan that will create thousands of jobs in New Jersey.
“Extending the energy tax will further hurt businesses struggling under onerous regulations and high taxes, Kyrillos said: “High taxes on energy will accelerate the flight of businesses to more affordable states damaging our economy.”
“The Corzine Administration and legislative Leadership should consider our budget alternatives. They are well researched common-sense options and they shouldn’t be ignored,” Kyrillos concluded.
