Ciesla, Wolfe & Holzapfel Call on Governor Corzine to Convene a Special Legislative Session on Ethics Reform

Senator Andy Ciesla and Assemblymen Dave Wolfe and Jim Holzapfel of the 10th legislative district joined with the Senate and Assembly Republicans to call upon Governor Corzine to convene a special legislative session on ethics reform.

The request was made by the entire membership of both legislative caucuses in a letter signed by the 17 Republicans in the New Jersey Senate and the 31 Republicans in the New Jersey General Assembly.

The letter notes the string of high profile public corruption cases in recent years in which three sitting State Senators, two Assemblymen and numerous local officials have been accused of corruption.

“The public has had enough, ” said Senator Ciesla. “They are genuinely and justly outraged over the unethical conduct of many public officials in New Jersey. They want us to take action to prevent these abuses from occurring, and to make punishments more severe when elected officials break the law.”

Earlier this month, 44 people were arrested including two assemblymen, three mayors and many other local officials on corruption charges in one of New Jersey’s biggest corruption scandals to date.

“Governor Corzine needs to stop ignoring the corruption that has occurred during his watch and heed our call to convene a special legislative session on ethics reform. It’s time for Governor Corzine to stop talking and finally take action to fight corruption, ” added Assemblyman Wolfe.

Assemblyman Holzapfel added: “How long will it take for Governor Corzine to finally show leadership and fight public corruption in the Garden State? He has the power to call the Legislature back to Trenton to address ethics reform, yet no action has been taken. New Jersey is waiting.”
