New Jersey will be better prepared to respond to calamities including natural disasters, terrorist attack and other large-scale catastrophes now that a bill sponsored by Senator Phil Haines has become law.
Senate Bill 451 requires the Office of Emergency Management to maintain a directory of emergency supplies.
“In the event of a major emergency, it is critical for emergency responders to be able to access, manage and utilize all of the supplies and assets at their disposal. The new law allows emergency personnel to concentrate on the crisis at hand, instead of worrying about locating the tools they need to protect the public,” said Senator Haines.
The law specifies the creation of a regional database containing a listing of public and private entities that provided emergency supplies. The database will include a listing of supplies and other resources available during an emergency, including emergency vehicles and boats; road signs, flares, cones and lights; personal protective gear; emergency food rations; and first aid material.
“Logistically, we will be better prepared to deal with any disaster than we have ever been,” Senator Haines said. “This law should provide just a little more peace of mind for New Jersey residents.”
