District 8

Haines, Addiego & Rudder: ‘We Will Be Open to Assist Constituents’

While State Offices Across New Jersey Shut Down for a Furlough Day, It Will Be Business as Usual at the 8th District Legislative Office

Motor Vehicle Commission offices and locations were closed Monday (May 18), and other state offices will go dark for one furlough day before the end of the month. Many offices will be closed on Friday, May 22, making it impossible for taxpayers to access service for a four-day stretch over the extended Memorial Day weekend.

Senator Phil Haines, Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder announced today that their 8th District office will not shut down for a furlough day.

“Closing our office on a business day runs contrary to our pledge to provide the best possible service to our constituents,” said Assemblywoman Addiego. “Closing the office really wasn’t an option for us.”

“We are constantly getting calls from district residents who are struggling with unemployment, or they are behind in their utility bills, or they have questions about veterans’ benefits,” said Assemblyman Rudder. “These people feel desperate and alone, and it is vital that when they call our office, we have someone who will answer the phone and go to work on their behalf.”

Governor Corzine, facing a state budget shortfall of $4.4 billion and growing, has proposed a second unpaid furlough day for state employees in June.

“Other offices will be closing, but we will remain open and ready to provide assistance to the people who live in the 8th District. We made a commitment to our constituents, and we will honor it,” said Senator Haines.

The 8th District office is also a collection site for donated items that will be shipped in care packages to men and women in the U.S. military serving in Iraq and Afghanistan by the Marlton-based Yellow Ribbon Club. For a list of desirable items, visit www.YellowRibbonClub.org and click on “donate items.”

Donated items may be delivered to the 8th District Office at 32A North Main Street in Medford from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays.
