District 8

Haines, Addiego & Rudder Recognized as ‘Taxpayer Champions’

8th District Legislators Earned Perfect Scores for Being ‘Most Vigorous Defenders of the Taxpayer’

Senator Phil Haines, Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder all earned 100 percent grades and were named “Taxpayer Champions” when the New Jersey Taxpayers Alliance released its 2009 Taxpayers Legislative scorecard this week.

“The Taxpayers Alliance confirms our commitment to protecting the interests of taxpayers and assuring that tax money is spent responsibly and transparently,” said Assemblywoman Addiego. “New Jerseyans are fed up with Governor Corzine’s propensity to spend money and increase taxes and fees.”

Haines, Addiego and Rudder were among just 44 legislators (out of 120) tabbed as Taxpayer Champions for their voting record. Senator Haines was one of only 11 senators who scored 100 percent; Assemblywoman Addiego and Assemblyman Rudder led 23 members of the Assembly who earned perfect scores.

“We are fighting for the taxpayers in Trenton. We are battling the policies of unchecked spending that have resulted in 115 new or increased taxes in the eight years that the Democrats have controlled the State House,” said Assemblyman Rudder. “We will keep fighting until we make New Jersey affordable again.”

The New Jersey Taxpayers Alliance considered the voting record of lawmakers on a series of critical legislation. The 10 bills used for the study included paid family leave, public employees pension changes, and borrowing for school construction. “Taxes in New Jersey are crushing people and driving them out of the state,” said Senator Haines. “Our state has made headlines for having the highest property taxes in the nation. We are doing everything we can to change that, and our efforts have been acknowledged by this report.”
