Business Roundtable Will Be Held on Wednesday, Feb. 29 in Southampton
Nancy Wittenberg, the Executive Director of the Pinelands Commission will be guest speaker at the 8th District Business Rountable on Wednesday, February 29. The hour-long event, presented by Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblyman Chris Brown, will be held at 8 a.m., at the Red Lion Diner in Southampton.
“The Pinelands cover such a large area of the 8th District, and it plays an enormous role in the local economies of so many of our municipalities,” said Senator Addiego. “Director Wittenberg has the role of balancing economic development and job growth with preserving and protecting the Pinelands.”
The Pinelands cover more than one million acres, or 22 percent of New Jersey’s land mass. More than 700,000 people live in the preserved area.
“The preservation of the Pinelands presents a unique challenge for business in the area,” said Assemblyman Rudder. “Existing businesses face extra burdens as they struggle to survive during the recession. Complex and confusing rules combined with layers of red-tape can delay projects and discourage new business from opening.”
Previous 8th District Roundtable speakers have included Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, DEP Commissioner Bob Martin, State Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff, Caren Franzini from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, and Thomas Considine, Commissioner of the Department of Banking and Insurance.
“We are committed to cutting government bureaucracy and red tape,” said Assemblyman Brown. “The Roundtable series brings business executives together with their state legislators and crucial administrators from Trenton. The dialogue at our meeting could eventually lead to the development of new jobs and opportunity for our Pinelands towns.”
Seating for the Business Roundtable is extremely limited. Reserve a spot by calling Josh Foote at the 8th District office at (609) 654-1498, or sending e-mail to jfoote@njleg.org. Coffee and Danish will be served.
