Hard Decisions, Unpopular Choices Have Fueled New Jersey’s Comeback
Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assembly Chris Brown (all R-Burlington) issued the following statements after Governor Chris Christie’s State of the State address to a joint session of the New Jersey Legislature.
Senator Addiego:
“We have made significant progress over two years of Governor Christie’s leadership. We have worked alongside the Governor to rein in out-of-control spending and pass long-term reforms. Now we are moving in the right direction. Because we made the tough choices in 2010 and 2011, we are going to bring tangible relief to taxpayers with income tax cuts and the full restoration of the Earned Income Tax Credit for working families. While other states are still being forced to increase taxes, New Jersey residents will benefit with more money in their pockets, and more economic opportunity in the future.”
Assemblyman Rudder:
“When Governor Christie took office, New Jersey residents were paying the highest property taxes in the country. Working with the Governor, we passed an unprecedented 2 percent cap on property taxes. This year, property tax growth was the lowest it has been in two decades, a dramatic contrast to the 70 percent increase of the previous 10 years. Now, the legislature, working with the Governor on the next budget, is poised to cut the state income tax by 10 percent over three years, providing direct and significant tax relief to every New Jersey family. The message is clear: New Jersey is becoming a more affordable place for families, for seniors, for everyone.”
Assemblyman Brown:
“Governor Christie’s reform agenda remains our best hope for making our state affordable for residents and attractive to business. We have seen the creation of more than 50,000 private sector jobs in two years, and New Jersey has just experienced its highest level of private sector job growth in 11 years. By making the hard decisions and breaking the status quo, we are making a comeback. New Jersey is again a friendly place for business and for jobs. By creating more jobs and fixing the flaws in the education system, we can provide our residents with the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
