Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande reacted today to published reports that the New Jersey Turnpike Authority is planning another meeting on Governor Corzine’s proposed toll hike plan. The meeting will be held Friday, October 10 at 9:00 A.M. at the Turnpike Authority headquarters in Woodbridge.
“I am very disturbed that once again the board of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority has refused to hold a meeting in Monmouth County, while holding its third meeting in Woodbridge” Beck stated. “The toll hike plan is of enormous importance to the thousands of Monmouth County commuters who travel the Parkway and Turnpike every day, they should be able to voice their opinion on this issue.”
“The voices of Monmouth residents must be heard,” O’Scanlon continued. “This is nothing more than a tax increase, and a regressive one at that. Middle-class families in Monmouth are being taxed out of their homes and out of the state.”
Assemblywoman Casagrande commented on the time and place of the next meeting. “The Turnpike authority held the first round of meetings in the span of only twenty hours, in places and at times that made it difficult for working, middle-class families to attend,” she said “This next meeting will be held on a Friday at 9 in the morning. This date and time seem intentionally designed to limit the number of people who will be able to attend. It’s unconscionable.”
