Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande declared that Governor Corzine’s legacy will be job loss as New Jersey’s unemployment rate greatly exceeded all its neighboring state’s in the Mid-Atlantic region. Below are the latest unemployment figures released by the United States Department of Labor.
March Unemployment Figures
- New Jersey 8.3%
- New York 7.8%
- Pennsylvania 7.8%
- Delaware 7.7%
- Connecticut 7.5%
- Maryland 6.9%
“Governor Corzine’s policies have left New Jersey in a worse economic situation than all of its neighbors – we have the highest unemployment, the highest taxes in the country, and some of the highest debt. Governor Corzine’s record in one of lost jobs and overtaxed citizens, ” Beck stated. “He must reverse his policies and fast.”
“It is disturbing that New Jersey, once the economic powerhouse of the region, finds itself mired in the economic doldrums,” O’Scanlon continued. “We must return to the practices that made our state a great place to live, open a business and raise a family.”
“It is a cold hard fact — people are voting with their feet,” Casagrande concluded. “Until Corzine rolls back some of his anti-business taxes and regulations, New Jersey’s economy and its middle-class families will continue to flee the state for more hospitable climes.”
