Antrim Elementary School Teacher Karen Deacon Honored
Senator Andy Ciesla and Assemblymen Dave Wolfe and Jim Holzapfel (all R-10) presented the 9th annual “Excellence in Education Award” during a recent ceremony at the G. Harold Antrim Elementary School in Point Pleasant Beach to 8th grade Language Arts teacher Karen Deacon.
“Mrs. Deacon consistently demonstrates a dedication to educational excellence that should serve as a model for all teachers, ” said Ciesla. “She brings her passion, knowledge and creativity to the classroom each day which resonates with the children and encourages learning. It is an honor to present the Ninth Annual Excellence in Education Award to such an outstanding educator.”
The 10th district legislators present the Excellence in Education Award annually to the elementary, middle school or high school teacher within the legislative district who best exemplifies commitment and dedication to classroom teaching.
“Although this award was presented to Mrs. Deacon in recognition of her commitment and dedication to teaching, it also demonstrates the commitment of Antrim Elementary School and Point Pleasant Beach to provide the best possible education to our children, ” said Holzapfel. “As long as we have teachers like Mrs. Deacon in our classrooms, we can be sure that our children will gain the skills and knowledge that will help them throughout their lives.”
Mrs. Deacon’s career in teaching started at the Point Pleasant Borough Memorial Middle School in 1972. She has taught at the G. Harold Antrim Elementary School since 2001 and was recently honored as the school’s 2008 Teacher of the Year.
“Every year we have an extremely difficult job in selecting a winner from the many highly qualified teachers who should all be recognized for their achievements in the classroom, ” added Wolfe. “Mrs. Deacon has proven to be one of the most effective and innovative teachers that I have ever come across and truly exemplifies ‘Excellence in Education.’”
