Connors & Rumpf Meet with Turnpike Authority to Discuss a “Park-N-Ride” at Exit 58 in Little Egg Harbor

Senator Christopher J. Connors and Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf recently met with representatives from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to discuss building a “park-n-ride” located near Garden State Parkway Exit 58 in Little Egg Harbor.

Senator Connors and Assemblyman Rumpf, who serves as the ranking Republican member of the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee, made the following remarks regarding their meeting:

“At the request of constituents and in concert with Mayor Scott Stites and the Little Egg Harbor Committee, we contacted the Turnpike Authority to discuss the prospect of building a ‘park-n-ride’ right off Parkway Exit 58 in Little Egg Harbor. Presently, there is a dirt lot in this same area that is being used by an increasing number of motorists. We understand that for reasons of safety and to prevent damage to their cars residents currently using the dirt parking lot want to leave their car in a lighted area with a paved road and therefore many would jump at the chance to have a ‘park-n-ride’ built there.

“During the meeting, we were pleased to learn that there is general interest by the Authority to build a ‘park-n-ride’ at this general location. It is recognized that there is a need for such facilities not only in Little Egg Harbor, but elsewhere in the state. As the State Representatives for Little Egg Harbor, we have pledged to work with the Authority, offering whatever assistance to facilitate the completion of such a project.

“Before moving forward, an exact location must be determined. By no means is it certain that the ‘park-n-ride, ‘ if constructed, would be the location currently being used by drivers. Alternative sites located no further than a half of a mile from the dirt parking lot will be looked at by the Authority.

“The continuing population growth in Ocean, Burlington and Atlantic counties requires that infrastructure upgrades, regardless of the project’s size, become top priorities of the state.”
