Senator Andy Ciesla (R-10) issued the following statement in response to Governor Corzine’s FY 2009 budget proposal:
“It appears that Governor Corzine’s plan to raise tolls by more than 800% is officially dead. This is a victory that was won by a weary public that has been promised too much and delivered too little by their Governors in recent years.
“After six years of massive budget and debt increases, it appears that Governor Corzine has finally been forced to admit that the gravy train is over. The current budget proposal is the first since Democrats have taken control of Trenton that would make substantial cuts to spending and to the size of government as has long been demanded by Republicans and taxpayers.
“Although the Governor’s proposal provides a decent first attempt at cutting spending, the Legislature must now go further to find additional waste that can be cut from the budget.”
