Gove Sworn into 9th District Assembly Seat

During the first Session day held since the Legislature recessed for the summer, Assemblywoman DiAnne C. Gove was sworn in today filling a vacancy seat in the 9th District Assembly for the remainder of the current Session. In January, Gove will be sworn in to serve her first full term following her victory on Election Day.

Assemblywoman Gove made the following remarks:

“First and foremost, I would like to thank the good people of the 9th Legislative District for their confidence and support. As a member of the State Assembly, I will not forget my roots in public service as a small town mayor and commissioner. I fully recognize that there is a lot to be done – and undone – in Trenton to begin the very difficult process of returning our state to economic prosperity.

Committee Advances Connors/Rumpf Measure to Establish Stable Funding Source for Island Beach State Program

The Park’s interpretive program is an educational resource that describes the Island’s natural history through tours and activities.

Public Safety, Regional Economic Benefits Key Points of Discussion Raised by 9th District Delegation

Senator Christopher J. Connors and Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf met with Major General Glenn K. Rieth, the Adjutant General of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) regarding the training program being facilitated at the Warren Grove Gunnery Range to operate the Shadow 200 RQ-7 Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System, also referred to as drones or UAVs.

Connors & Rumpf Statement on Health Care Reform Proposal Currently Before Congress

Normally, we don’t weigh in on federal issues unless there is a direct correlation to State government. However, we are forced to make an exception in the case of the ongoing debate on health care reform that Congress is currently engaged in.

As State Legislators we do not have the authority or the ability to vote on any federal health care reform bill. That said, we feel it necessary to explain to the people of the 9th District where we stand on the issue given that our office continues to be overwhelmed with letters from irate constituents who believe the proposal will detrimentally impact the quality of the medical care they receive.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Responds to Connors/Rumpf Request for Release of Documents

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has responded to correspondence sent by Senator Christopher J. Connors and Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf in which the 9th District Legislators urged the NRC to make public specific documents pertaining to the tritium release at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station on April 15 of this year. Senator Connors and Assemblyman Rumpf stressed to the NRC the need for transparency in this process, if nothing else, to reassure residents living in proximity to the facility that there is no risk posed to the public.

Connors/Rumpf Personal Watercraft Safety Bill Signed into Law

Legislation sponsored by Senator Christopher J. Connors and Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf aimed at enhancing water safety measures for personal watercraft was signed into law today by the Governor.

The 9th District Legislative Delegation’s measure, S-1171/A-2736, will prohibit the operation of personal watercraft, commonly referred to as jet-skis,  above minimum headway within 100 feet of buoys or signs that mark the boundaries of a swimming area, the shoreline, persons in the water and residential dwelling units.

Connors & Rumpf Contact DOT on Tuckerton Spillway Issue

9th District Legislators Urge DOT to Pursue Alternative Location Other than Property of Local Business Establishment

Senator Christopher J. Connors and Assemblyman Brian Rumpf today issued a letter to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) urging that an alternative site be explored for a planned spillway project other than the currently eyed site, which is on property belonging to the Stewart’s Root Beer Drive-In establishment, located on Route 9 in Tuckerton Borough.

Connors Testifies at Joint Legislative Public Hearing on Protecting Barnegat Bay

9th Legislative District Hosts Joint Senate-Assembly Environment Committee

Emphasizing both the environment and economic aspects of the issue, Senator Christopher J. Connors testified during a joint Senate-Assembly Environment Committee hearing today on the pressing need to protect the Barnegat Bay.  Today’s public hearing was held in Lacey Township at the request of the 9th District Delegation.

Connors and Rumpf Call on Van Pelt to Resign Immediately

Senator Christopher J. Connors and Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf called on Daniel Van Pelt to resign immediately from his Assembly seat following his arrest in a sweeping FBI money laundering and corruption probe.

Senator Connors and Assemblyman Rumpf released the following statement:

“We are extremely disappointed and shocked by the news. That said, while we fully understand that under our legal system everyone is innocent until proven guilty, we are compelled to call on Daniel Van Pelt to resign from his Assembly seat immediately. Amid these serious charges, both of us intend to continue devoting our full attention to representing the people of the 9th Legislative District.”
