Legislation Will Shift Responsibility to Department of Education
Governor Chris Christie announced last month that seven Executive County Superintendents across the state, appointed by former Gov. Corzine, would not be reappointed.
Senator Dawn Marie Addiego, Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblyman Pat Delany are planning to take that one step further when they introduce legislation to abolish the position of Executive County Superintendent in all 21 New Jersey counties.
Senator Dawn Marie Addiego (R-Burlington) issued the following statement today in response to Governor Chris Christie’s State of the State speech:
“Governor Christie is building a new foundation for a smarter, more efficient government that offers more value for every dollar spent.
“During these difficult economic times, Governor Christie is putting forth the necessary solutions to help confront the hard choices New Jersey families face every day. By reining in government spending, lowering the tax burden and creating an environment of entrepreneurship and growth we are reinventing and reenergizing New Jersey’s ailing economic status and overall fiscal health.
Senators Diane Allen (R- Burlington/Camden), Jennifer Beck (R- Monmouth/Mercer), and Dawn Marie Addiego (R- Burlington) were joined by Republican women of the Assembly to call for a vote on Anne Patterson to the New Jersey Supreme Court. Their comments come in response to controversy surrounding the appointment of an interim justice to fill the vacancy created by John Wallace’s departure from the bench.
“There is no need for the controversy surrounding the Supreme Court to continue,” said Senator Allen. “The dispute over the interim justice could end tomorrow if the Senate President and Judiciary Committee Chairman would schedule confirmation hearings and a vote on Anne Patterson’s nomination to the Court. In fact, we never would have gotten to this point in the first place had the Majority respected the Governor’s Constitutional authority to make judicial appointments and the Senate’s responsibility to actively consider and vote on the nomination. Advice and consent means an up or down vote, not delay and deal cutting. Anne Patterson is extremely well qualified and has built an impressive legal and public service career. She should be judged on those merits and those merits alone, and all Senators should be given the opportunity to register their opinion of the nomination on the floor of the Senate.”
Senator Dawn Marie Addiego (R- Burlington), member of the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism, and Historic Preservation Committee, issued this statement following the panel’s approval of legislation reforming interest arbitration for public employees:
“Taxpayers are the winners under this agreement,” said Senator Addiego. “The compromise proposal reached between legislative leaders and the Governor is a major milestone for reform in New Jersey- one that too many residents thought would never come. Placing a realistic cap on arbitration awards, speeding up the time in which cases must be resolved, and requiring that arbitrators be chosen at random will reduce labor costs and the pressures they exert on local budgets. I look forward to supporting this bold property tax reform measure when it comes to the floor of the Senate.”
Republican members of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee today called on Senate Democrats to include complementary legislation from Republican lawmakers in efforts to spur job creation in New Jersey:

Unemployed New Jersey residents expect that we all work together to attract business and create jobs- regardless of our philosophical differences and political affiliations. 8th District Legislative Office Will Serve as Drop-off Location for Holiday Treats for Troops During Medford’s Dickens Festival on Dec. 4
Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego and Assemblyman Scott Rudder have joined forces with the Yellow Ribbon Club to collect holiday cookies and other sweet treats for American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Holiday treats can be dropped off a the legislators’ 8th District office during the Dickens Festival, 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, along Main Street in Medford. The office is located at 32A North Main Street.
Caren Franzini Will Speak at Monthly Business Round-table Hosted by 8th District Legislators on Oct. 19
Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego will host their next Business Round-table session, 8 a.m. Tuesday, October 19, at the Medport Diner on Route 70 in Medford.
The guest speaker will be Caren Franzini, the chief executive officer of New Jersey’s Economic Development Authority.
“EDA plays a key role in promoting New Jersey and attracting new business to the area. We will be discussing ways to invigorate the state’s economy, and efforts to re-establish New Jersey as a leader in business growth and job creation,” said Assemblyman Rudder.

Assemblyman Scott Rudder and Assemblywoman Dawn Marie Addiego have invited local business owners and leaders to a round-table discussion with Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, 8 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, at the Medport Diner on Route 70 in Medford.
“Small business is the engine that will power the financial recovery in New Jersey,” said Assemblyman Rudder. “Business growth and job creation are crucial to restoring economic stability in our communities.”
The female Republican members of the State Senate and General Assembly would like to offer the following statement of support for Governor Christie’s New Jersey Supreme Court nominee, Anne Patterson:
“New Jersey can be proud of its record on women in government. In fact, in 1925, New Jersey was the sixth State in the nation to elect a woman to represent them in the U.S. Congress.
“In that spirit, as female elected-officials, we would like to voice our support for the Senate to hold confirmation hearings for Anne Patterson as a nominee to the New Jersey Supreme Court. If confirmed by the Senate, Ms. Patterson’s appointment to the court would mean that for the first time in New Jersey history, we would have a majority of women on the State Supreme Court. New Jersey would become only the fifth State in the nation to have such a balance.
