Kyrillos: Governor Unwise to Divert $9 Million from Shore Protection Fund

Senator Joe Kyrillos reacted today to reports that critical flood control projects in Union Beach are stalled due to lack of funds. Without the upgraded flood control projects, property owners in large areas of Union Beach would be forced to purchase costly federal flood insurance.

Kyrillos: Shore Protection Fund Diversion Endangers Jersey Tourism

Senator Joe Kyrillos, a member of the Senate Economic Growth Committee, expressed disappointment about the $9 million diversion from the shore protection fund and proposed an update to the New Jersey Shore Protection Master Plan in a letter sent to Commissioner Jackson of the Department of Environmental Protection today.

Republican Judiciary Committee Members Ask that Parole Board Member Charlie Jones Be Removed

The Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have sent letters to Governor Jon Corzine and Judiciary Committee Chairman John Adler asking that they take action to remove State Parole board member Charlie Jones from his position. In a letter to Judge William Martini, Mr. Jones alleged that the Federal indictment and jury conviction of Mayor Sharpe James were nothing more than political acts.

Senator Joseph Kyrillos, the ranking Republican member of the Senate Economic Growth Committee, issued the following statement regarding the Senates passage of legislation which would redirect $9 million in funds dedicated to shore protection and beach replenishment. The Shore Protection Fund was created as a direct result of the 1991 “Perfect Storm,” a Nor’easter that caused massive damage along the coast from New Jersey to Maine.
