Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt have written to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) at the request of the Viking Yachts Company to inquire if any grants, rebate programs or tax incentives are available to the Company for its proposed wind turbine project.

To the detriment of ratepayers struggling to pay their bills, the state has, over the past several years, become increasingly reliant on taxing electricity to balance the State Budget – and there is no sign of this changing any time soon. Before setting the blame entirely on utility companies or market fluctuations, residents should know that the state does play a role in increasing electric rates as the result of irresponsible fiscal management and taxation. Through legislation, our Delegation is seeking to alleviate the crushing tax burden placed on residents and businesses.

9th District Delegation Opposes Offering Driver’s Licenses & In-State Tuition to Illegal Immigrants
Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt today expressed deep concern over the Governor’s ambivalence to the recommendations offered by his own Blue Ribbon Advisory Panel on Immigrant Policy, which including allowing the issuance of driver’s license for undocumented aliens as well as in-state tuition for foreign-born New Jersey students. In January, Connors, Rumpf and Van Pelt wrote the Governor urging him to reject these proposals after reports surfaced in the media that the Panel would be offering such recommendations.

Van Pelt all voted “No” on legislation (S-2577/A-3772) recently considered by both Houses of the State Legislature that would permit the conversion of age-restricted housing units to non-age-restricted housing units and would modify laws concerning affordable housing.

Legislation recently introduced by Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt would permit a certain portion of municipal development trust funds to be directed to a municipal program for first-time home-buying veterans, to provide grants for down payment assistance. Current law permits a municipality that is authorized to collect affordable housing fees under the rules of the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) to set aside amounts from the fees collected to provide an array of affordability assistance programs.

Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt announced today they will introduce legislation to require that all newly hired State employees be New Jersey residents. The 9th District Legislators’ proposal would apply to persons employed in the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches of the state as well as with an authority, board, body, agency, commission, State college or university. Current State employees would not be affected under the proposal.

Legislation sponsored by Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt that would designate July 17 of each year as “Chiari Malformation-Syringomyelia Awareness Day” in New Jersey was approved today by the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. Syringomyelia (SM) is a neurological disorder in which a cyst or cavity forms within the spinal cord, possibly destroying it over time. Chiari malformation (CM), a form of syringomyelia, is a structural defect in the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls balance.
