Connors Testifies at Joint Legislative Public Hearing on Protecting Barnegat Bay

9th Legislative District Hosts Joint Senate-Assembly Environment Committee

Emphasizing both the environment and economic aspects of the issue, Senator Christopher J. Connors testified during a joint Senate-Assembly Environment Committee hearing today on the pressing need to protect the Barnegat Bay.  Today’s public hearing was held in Lacey Township at the request of the 9th District Delegation.

Connors and Rumpf Call on Van Pelt to Resign Immediately

Senator Christopher J. Connors and Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf called on Daniel Van Pelt to resign immediately from his Assembly seat following his arrest in a sweeping FBI money laundering and corruption probe.

Senator Connors and Assemblyman Rumpf released the following statement:

“We are extremely disappointed and shocked by the news. That said, while we fully understand that under our legal system everyone is innocent until proven guilty, we are compelled to call on Daniel Van Pelt to resign from his Assembly seat immediately. Amid these serious charges, both of us intend to continue devoting our full attention to representing the people of the 9th Legislative District.”

Connors, Rumpf & Van Pelt Seek to Enhance Community Notification Procedures for Megan’s Law

Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt have introduced legislation (S-2980/A-4153) that would require the Attorney General to provide a means for notification by electronic mail when a sex offender listed on the Internet Registry registers a new address in a different county or zip code from the offender’s previous address.

Connors, Rumpf & Van Pelt Call on NRC to Release Analysis on Tritium Release at Oyster Creek Facility

9th District Legislative Delegation Writes to White House, NRC, Governor’s Office & DEP

In response to recent media reports, Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt are calling for the immediate release of a root-cause analysis on the tritium release at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station. According to published media reports, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has a time-frame of six weeks to decide whether or not to make this information public.

Senate Approves Connors/Rumpf/Van Pelt Bill Authorizing Towns to Offer Free Beach Badges to Military Personnel

Legislation sponsored by Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt that would allow municipalities to provide free or reduced fee beach badges to active military and New Jersey National Guard personnel, as well as their spouses and children over the age of 12, was passed by the full Senate today.

Connors/Rumpf/Van Pelt Call on Corzine to Expedite Design Phase of Route 72 Causeway Bridge Replacement Project

9th District Delegation Cites Bridge Repair Work Controversy as Further Evidence Project Needs to Get Underway Immediately

Citing the victory today in the decision by the Department of Transportation (DOT) to delay any lane closings on the Route 72 Causeway Bridge until after Labor Day, Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt today conveyed their disappointment that the State even considered this ill-conceived approach in connection with repair work on the bridge. The 9th District Legislators pointed out that this latest controversy only once again highlights the very pressing need to expedite the design phase in order to get the Route 72 Causeway bridge replacement project under way as soon as possible.

Connors/Rumpf/Van Pelt Bill Would Assist Senior Communities in Getting Solar Panels for Clubhouses to Reduce Electric Costs

Senior Communities would be eligible to receive grants and low interest loans for the purchase and installation of solar panels to their clubhouses under legislation recently introduced by Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt. The 9th District Delegation’s energy cost reduction initiative would be offered under the New Jersey Clean Energy Program, which is administered by the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).

Connors/Rumpf/Van Pelt Introduce Legislation Requiring Municipal Approval of Transfer Stations

9th District Delegation’s Action in Direct Response to Transfer Station Proposal in Little Egg Harbor

To provide local residents of a municipality a greater voice in decisions impacting their community, Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt have introduced legislation (A-4094) that would require municipal approval of a new solid waste facility, including transfer stations. Under the 9th District Legislators’ initiative, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) would be required to reject the application or engineering design of a solid waste facility, including a transfer station, if the prospective home municipality disapproves of the facility’s location.

Tax Credit Would Be Established Under Connors/Rumpf/Van Pelt Bill for Psychiatric Treatment of Veterans

Legislation drafted by Senator Christopher J. Connors, Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Daniel M. Van Pelt would allow for a tax credit to be available for unreimbursed psychiatric treatment provided to a veteran who has been honorably discharged from active military service and is a resident of the state. The 9th District Legislators’ veterans’ initiative would be for a corporation business tax credit or income tax credit.
