Our Delegation recently spoke out against legislation (A-3490) introduced by a Mercer County State Legislator that seeks to consolidate all six municipalities on Long Beach Island into a single municipality without voter consent. We took issue with this proposal, not in opposition to consolidation or shared municipal services, but because it was yet another prime example of Trenton’s arrogance in dictating what is best for Ocean County, with little interest in the will of its people. Lest we forget the undermining strategy used to suppress the voice of residents by not scheduling any public hearings on the toll hike plan which is now in effect in the Shore area.

Our state recently took a significant step back, detracting from progress made in terms of making higher education more available, by advancing legislation to limit eligibility standards for hardworking students to receive community college scholarships. This is of serious concern because it is generally acknowledged New Jersey loses many of its brightest students due to the cost of higher education here as compared to other states.
