Democrats Table Ethics Reform Once Again
Senator Jennifer Beck (R-12) issued the following statement today regarding the tabling of a motion to bring Senate Bill 684 to a vote. Under Senate rule 12:6, Senator Beck requested that Senate Bill 684, banning wheeling through county committees be brought for a vote immediately.

Senator Jennifer Beck (R-12) issued the following statement today regarding the Senate Democrats’ refusal to adopt amendments that would have strengthened the reconstituted Joint Legislative Committee on Ethical Standards (Senate Bill 1442/Assembly Bill 2452). The amendment was rejected in a party line vote.

Senators Jennifer Beck (R-12) and Kevin O’Toole (R-40) were disappointed to learn that Attorney General Anne Milgram will not testify at the next Senate State Government Committee. The Senators requested that the Attorney General testify in person about her investigation into the possible illegal removal of computerized documents and emails during the McGreevey administration.

The senators requested that seven bills pertaining to dual office holding, pay-to-play and wheeling be brought for a vote at the next Senate State Government Committee hearing.

$4 Million and Climbing for Legal Work on Failed Road Tax Plan
Senator Jennifer Beck and her Assembly colleagues Declan J. O’Scanlon and Caroline Casagrande, (R-12), called on Governor Corzine to explain the selection of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, one of the largest law firms in the world as lead counsel for his failed toll hike and borrowing scheme. As of four months ago, Skadden had billed the State more than $4 million, but Skadden has not yet billed the State for work over the past four months. No work product has been shared with the public and bills were redacted so it is not even clear what Skadden did for the money it was paid.
