Talk Comes on Day that Corzine Puts One More Hack on the Payroll
A few years back, Lilo Stainton of Gannett authored a blockbuster Sunday story about how the School Construction Corporation was wasting money on political mailings that cost millions of dollars and prominently featured former Governor James McGreevey. The story laid out a scandal where McGreevey was clearly using millions of dollars of taxpayer money (and money meant for school kids) to promote himself. To his credit, Senate President Codey pulled the plug on the marketing scam soon after replacing McGreevey, as Governor.

Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have sent a letter to Senator Paul Sarlo, the committee’s chairman, asking that he schedule at least three days of hearings on the potential reappointment of Barry Albin as a justice to the New Jersey Supreme Court.

Senator Gerald Cardinale (R-39) responded to reports today that Governor Jon Corzine has paid a huge settlement to prevent the public disclosure of the unusual circumstances under which Rocco Riccio was dismissed from a string of patronage positions in which he was placed. Riccio was reportedly paid $362,500 in late-September after threatening to sue Corzine and make public the terms of his employment and eventual termination from a pair of taxpayer and tollpayer funded positions.

“Governor Corzine doesn’t get it. He recognizes that the patient is ill, but instead of penicillin he would make the patient sicker. What makes our state’s economic crisis worse is that he and his legislative allies have, for years, spent beyond our means.

The Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have sent letters to Governor Jon Corzine and Judiciary Committee Chairman John Adler asking that they take action to remove State Parole board member Charlie Jones from his position. In a letter to Judge William Martini, Mr. Jones alleged that the Federal indictment and jury conviction of Mayor Sharpe James were nothing more than political acts.
