Senator Gerald Cardinale, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said this after reading comments attributed to state Senator John Adler, chairman of the committee, in the Asbury Park Press:
“Republicans on the Judiciary Committee immediately joined to call for the removal of Charles Jones from the Parole Board after Jones sent a letter saying that the corruption conviction of former Newark Mayor Sharpe James was politically motivated.

The Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have sent letters to Governor Jon Corzine and Judiciary Committee Chairman John Adler asking that they take action to remove State Parole board member Charlie Jones from his position. In a letter to Judge William Martini, Mr. Jones alleged that the Federal indictment and jury conviction of Mayor Sharpe James were nothing more than political acts.

Five Republican senators have sent a letter to Judge William Martini asking him to impose the maximum possible sentence on Sharpe James, the former senator and mayor of Newark, for his crimes against the citizens of Newark and the taxpayers of New Jersey.
“This borrowing scheme is equivalent to asking elementary school children to take out loans to pay for their own education.”
Senator Gerald Cardinale (R-39) criticized Governor Jon Corzine today after he signed legislation authorizing $3.9 billion to be borrowed for school construction without voter approval.
Senator Gerald Cardinale (R-39) expressed disappointment today that Governor Corzine’s promised increases in special education funding will not be included in the Fiscal Year 2009 budget as promised. Corzine proposes delaying the funding until the following budget year.

Senator Gerald Cardinale (R-Bergen) introduced a proposed constitutional amendment this week which would reinstate the death penalty for the most violent crimes. The crimes include the murder of a law enforcement official, terrorism resulting in death and a child rapist who murders his victims.
