Caucus Asks for Bipartisan Support in Opposition to Clearly Illegal Diversion
Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean and Senate Republican Budget Officer Leonard Lance introduced a Concurrent Resolution today that begins the process of invalidating the New Jersey Turnpike Authorities’ attempt to illegally divert toll road revenue to the new trans-Hudson rail tunnel. All seventeen Republican members in the Senate have signed onto the legislation.

Legislation Would Prohibit Sports Teams from Selling Personal Seat Licenses
Senator Kevin O’Toole (R-40) introduced legislation today that would prevent sports teams in New Jersey from selling personal seat licenses (”PSL”). The bill is a direct result of plans by the New York Giants and New York Jets football franchises to charge season ticket holders a PSL fee upward of $25,000 for the right to buy season tickets. The proposed bill would ban the Giants, Jets and any other team in the state from requiring fans to purchase PSLs.

New Jersey Shore Protection Master Plan Hasn’t Been Updated Since 1981
Senator Joe Kyrillos, the Senior Republican Member of the Senate Economic Growth Committee, introduced legislation yesterday that will require the Department of Environmental Protection to update the New Jersey Shore Protection Master Plan. The current plan has been in effect since 1981. New Jersey has 127 miles of coastline and the state’s tourism industry generates more that $38 billion in economic activity and more than $ 2 billion in revenue for the state treasury.

Bill Prevents Tuition Assistance and Salary Increases for School Employees that Earn Degrees at Unaccredited Institutions of Higher Education
The Senate Education Committee has approved legislation sponsored by Senator Jennifer Beck that would prevent school employees from receiving tuition assistance or salary increases for degrees earned at so-called “diploma mills.” The legislation, S-2127, was introduced in response to revelations that school administrators in Freehold had received both tuition assistance and pay raises after completing doctoral programs at Breyer State University, an unaccredited online school that provides advanced degrees in exchange for little more than the tuition that is paid.
